Daylesford Dawn

Daylesford Dawn Oil painting by D Hilton-Bright

Oil on canvas on wooden board 25.5cm x 53cm

It's just after dawn on Daylesford's Heritage Lake. It's going to be another hot day but for now it's still and the far shoreline is visable through the mist that will soon disappear. The only sign of life are a few ducks and two people in a dinghy.

One late rising duck stood on the shore debating if it was worth getting her feet wet, waiting to see if the rowers had any food.

I was struck by the stark silhouette of the reeds, the duck and the contrast of the light on and through the yellow leaves. This subject required precise line work, like a pen and ink but needed the colour that could only come from oils.
